Traditionally, Nandi people are great warriors who were famous for their militant opposition to the introduction of British colonial rule in the early years of the last century. Led by their spiritual leader Koitalel Arap Samoei, Nandi warriors were described as a thorn in the flesh of the British who had their eyes on the forests and rich agricultural lands. Today, the Nandi people have maintained a spirit of independence, courage and endurance of their warrior forefathers is still in their blood. But that energy has been focused on to something else, athletics.
Occupied by over 800,000 residents, Nandi thrives through agriculture and livestock rearing as their main economic activities but traces of cash crop farming are becoming eminent in the county as the days go by. Nandi Hills is not only a great place to train and explore but a much better place to stay with quality guest houses, lodges and hotels as compared to its counterpart Kapsabet.
